The weather outside may be frightful, but indoors and tucked up in front of your computer Christmas cheer is coming at your from across the internet – and you can even crowdfund it!
Although the festive season is pretty jam-packed when it comes to fundraising (and statistics show that campaigns actually do better at other times of the year when there is less competition) we’ve witnessed all sorts of brilliant Christmas-related crowd-funding campaigns over the years. Here we’ve picked a few of our ultimate favourites from all over the world. Perhaps they’ll give you inspiration for a Christmas-tastic campaign in 2017?
Taking Theatre to the Community
Everyone loves a bit of a sing-song and some theatre over Christmas, but it’s obviously harder for certain people to get out there and enjoy it. So, with that sentiment in mind, The Dot Collective in the UK raised funds to take their production of A Christmas Carol round care centres in the Sussex providing a shared experience for those living in care, their friends, families and carers. What a lovely festive idea! They raised 104% of their goal and the project was a success.
Christmas Giving in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico
The festive season often inspires people to donate to charity, and one successful crowdfunding campaign to encourage that was the Christmas Giving Angel Tree. The project raised money for the Holy Child School in the Dominican Republic and Amigos de Jesús Maestro in Puerto Rico, and worked to keep young children off the streets by providing a safe classroom and after-school enrichment activities. It may only have raised around €500, but the project had far-reaching success and certainly spread plenty of festive cheer.
Big Screen Festivities
A good Christmas film always goes down well, and that’s exactly what the creators of The Christmas Dragon feature film hoped would happen when they launched their campaign. Luckily, they were right! Hopeful fans of this sword and sorcery Christmas adventure for the whole family pledged over $50,000 to make this film happen.

A Model Project
Finally, how’s this for Christmas success? In 2015 Florida-based company Ugears launched a festive campaign to fund their sustainable, eco-friendly wood models that are each capable of a unique and fascinating range of self-powered movements, all without batteries. The project went viral, and the original fund goal of $15,000 jumped to $143,797 thanks to its 1,264 backers. Ugears has since become a much-loved product and a major trend Christmas present trend.
And there you have it – lots of festive inspiration for campaigns that make people want to dig deep at Christmas time!
From all of us at Zaar, we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year, and we look forward to getting more of your great ideas funded in 2017!
